Bio
Born and raised in Scotland, Ellijai grew up around music from the very beginning, with her dad’s song-writing and live performances shaping much of her early world. Songs were never distant to her, she saw how they started, how they changed, and how powerful they could be when someone really meant what they were singing.
By the age of seven, Ellijai was already creating music of her own. Her first song, written and recorded in her home studio, sparked something that has never left her. Classically trained in voice and piano, and also a guitarist, she developed the musical grounding to match her natural instinct for song-writing. From thirteen, she began performing alongside her dad, gaining early experience on stage before stepping out further at sixteen with her own solo support slots.
Since releasing her debut single Floating in the Flood at just 15, Ellijai has been steadily carving out her place as one of Scotland’s most exciting young emerging artists. Her sound has grown into a powerful blend of indie-rock and indie-pop, melodic, guitar-laced, emotionally direct and built with the kind of hooks that feel ready for bigger rooms. Drawing inspiration from Paramore, Olivia Rodrigo and Wolf Alice, she writes songs that feel young, sharp and open-hearted without ever feeling small.
At the centre of it all is her voice. Wide-ranging, expressive and unmistakably her own, Ellijai’s vocal leads the songs rather than simply sitting on top of them. It can move from soft and almost dreamlike to full-force power, pulling the listener through every rise and fall and giving her music its strongest identity.
Her writing comes from real observation: the way people hide, hurt, hope, fall apart and find themselves again. Whether she is writing about heartbreak, frustration, self-doubt, love, survival, navigating teenage life or the sudden light that can arrive when you least expect it.
In 2026, Ellijai formed her own band and stepped into her first full-band live shows, bringing a new scale and energy to her songs. That momentum has continued across Scotland’s live circuit, with performances at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, The Garage, with local festivals, Endless Summer Festival, Heartland Festival and more, alongside another King Tut’s slot confirmed for September.
That growing live reputation has been matched by early support from BBC Introducing Scotland, including Track of the Week for Stupid Sometimes, and recognition as a finalist in the Scottish Live Music Awards Young Live Act of the Year category. Still only 17, Ellijai is continuing to build with a run of new releases every six weeks, Outta Nowhere as her third single of 2026, and a debut album planned for summer 2027.
Elijai is gaining real momentum, releasing new music, building a strong live reputation and shaping a sound that feels fully her own. Whether solo or fronting her full band, she has the kind of voice and song writing that pull you in and hold you there – full of sharp observations, raw feeling and big melodic hooks, with an indie-pop/indie-rock sound that has real bite.
