Glasgow singer-songwriter Ellijai is emerging as one of Scotland’s most exciting young alternative voices, pairing emotionally direct songwriting with sharp indie-rock guitars, driving synths and a vocal that can turn from vulnerable to fearless in a heartbeat.

Now 18, she has already earned BBC Introducing Scotland Track of the Week support for Stupid Sometimes, followed by further BBC airplay for Outta Nowhere. Her growing live reputation has taken her to King Tut’s, The Garage, Heartland Festival, Endless Summer at The Hug and Pint and festivals across Scotland, while a place in the final of the Scottish Live Music Awards’ Young Live Act of the Year category marked another step forward.

Her new single, Skinny Boyfriend, is her fourth release of 2026 and the clearest statement yet of an artist moving confidently into her own lane. Flirtatious, explosive and charged with guitars and synths, it continues a run of new music released every six weeks as Ellijai builds towards her debut album, planned for summer 2027.

Ellijai is an 18-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter making guitar-led indie-pop/rock anthems with sharp instincts, emotional clarity and a live presence well beyond her years.

Her new single, Skinny Boyfriend, released on 21 August 2026, is flirtatious, explosive and charged with sharp guitars, driving synths and punchy drums. Playful and full of attitude, the track captures the attraction of someone messy, unpredictable and effortlessly cool — all bones, chaos and rock-and-roll confidence. It is Ellijai’s fourth release of 2026 and the clearest statement yet of an artist moving confidently into her own lane.

Rooted in indie-pop/rock and confessional songwriting, Ellijai’s music moves between frustration, self-awareness, hope and defiance, always grounded in real moments rather than over-polished ideas. Drawing influence from Olivia Rodrigo, Wolf Alice, Paramore, The Last Dinner Party and Florence Road, she is quickly shaping a sound that feels direct, melodic and distinctly her own.

Raised in a musical household, Ellijai began writing and recording songs at home by the age of seven. Classically trained in voice and piano, and later developing as a guitarist, she built a strong musical foundation before stepping onto stages across Scotland as a young teenager. By thirteen, she was already performing live at festivals and venues including ButeFest and Òran Mór, both as part of a band and as a solo artist

Since releasing her debut single, Floating in the Flood, in June 2024, aged just fifteen, Ellijai has continued to develop at pace across a run of releases including Judged, Zombie, Bad Timing, Stupid Sometimes, Smoke Away and Outta Nowhere. With Skinny Boyfriend, her latest release, she shows another side of that growth — bolder, louder and more playful, while still carrying the honesty and guitar-led identity that runs through her work.

Ellijai has already been championed by BBC Introducing Scotland, with Stupid Sometimes named Track of the Week, followed by further BBC airplay for Outta Nowhere. She also reached the final of the Scottish Live Music Awards’ Young Live Act of the Year category.
